Tesamorlin
Tesamorelin is a growth hormone-releasing hormone analog that increases IGF-1 levels in men and women, by an average of 181 micrograms/litre. It binds to and stimulates GHRH receptors with similar potency as endogenous GHRH. It has a host of other benefits including nootropic effects and reducing triglycerides. Tesamorelin has subsequently been shown to decrease carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT), visceral adipose tissue (VAT), and c-reactive protein (CRP). It has not been linked to significantly affect other pituitary hormones and their respective mechanisms in the body.
Additionally, it can improve cognitive function for healthy seniors and patients with an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease, due to mild cognitive impairment.
Functions and Benefits
- Tissue Repair and Regeneration: Tesmorlin is believed to support the healing and regeneration of various tissues, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, and skin. It is thought to promote the repair of damaged tissues and enhance overall recovery.
- Anti-Inflammatory Effects: It has anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce inflammation and associated pain in injured or affected areas.
- Cell Migration and Growth: Tesmorlin promotes the migration and proliferation of cells involved in the repair process, aiding in faster and more effective healing.
- Improved Flexibility and Range of Motion: By supporting tissue repair, tesmorlin may improve flexibility and range of motion, which can be beneficial for athletes or individuals recovering from injuries.
Potential Benefits for Athletes
- Enhanced Recovery: Tesmorlin may support faster recovery from injuries and intense physical training by promoting tissue repair and regeneration. This can help athletes return to their activities more quickly and reduce downtime.
- Reduced Inflammation: Its anti-inflammatory properties can help manage exercise-induced inflammation, potentially reducing muscle soreness and improving overall comfort during recovery.
- Improved Flexibility and Mobility: By aiding in the repair of tendons, ligaments, and muscles, tesmorlin may enhance flexibility and range of motion, which can be beneficial for athletes seeking to improve their performance and reduce the risk of injury.
- Support for Wound Healing: For athletes dealing with minor injuries or surgeries, tesmorlin could accelerate the healing process, helping them get back to training or competition more quickly.
Mechanism of Action in Sports Context
- Actin Binding: Tesmorlin binds to actin, which supports cell movement and repair. This action helps in the regeneration of damaged tissues, making it useful for recovery from sports-related injuries.
- Angiogenesis: It may stimulate the formation of new blood vessels, which improves blood flow to injured or stressed tissues, facilitating faster recovery.
- Cellular Repair: Tesmorlin supports cellular processes crucial for repairing muscle, tendon, and ligament tissues, contributing to overall recovery and performance enhancement.
